About the retreat

“Go home to your garden and cultivate the flowers of peace, compassion,
understanding and joy.”

- - Thich Nhat Hanh

In the fast-paced world of today, many of us are overwhelmed by busy and stressful lives, or we have the tendency to fill up our lives with busyness. And when there are quiet moments, we often turn to the many distractions that are available to us today (television, facebook, internet, mobile phones, etc.). Living this way, we lose touch with what is going on in and around us, in the here and now. When we bring the energy of mindfulness to our lives, we are able to come home to ourselves and be fully available to life as it unfolds in the present moment. Being home in ourselves, we can cultivate the flowers of peace, compassion, understanding and joy, in ourselves and in the world.

On the weekend of 15-16 October 2011, we will be offering a residential mindfulness retreat entitled, “Coming Home to Ourselves”. For this retreat, we are happy to once again welcome to the Algarve, Portuguese monk Brother António (Thay Phap Nhan) from Plum Village, to offer teachings in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh.

The retreat will center on periods of sitting and walking meditation, mindful movements, Dharma talks, small-group Dharma discussion and the opportunity to practice mindfulness during every moment of the retreat. Periods of silence will deepen and enrich the experience. All are welcome to join, no prior experience is necessary. The languages spoken will be English and Portuguese with Spanish translation.

The retreat will take place at Retreat Centre Monte Mariposa, located in the beautiful hills of the Algarve, near Sta Catarina, 10 km from Tavira. Check-in will be from 11:00 -12:30 on Saturday, October 15th. The retreat will end on Sunday afternoon at around 17:30.
