Mindfulness Practice Group
“As a drop of water, we cannot go far; we cannot arrive at the ocean. But as a river we will always arrive. So, our practice is to be a river and not a drop of water.”
- - Thich Nhat Hanh |
Inspired by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, mindfulness practice groups (sanghas) have been founded all around the world to give support to one another in the practice. The Mindfulness Practice Group at Quinta da Calma meets on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. On the second Saturday we meet for an afternoon of mindfulness where we practice guided and silent sitting meditation, walking meditation, mindful movements and mindful sharing. On the fourth Saturday, the activity is an extended walking meditation in the nature reserve of the Ria Formosa and on the beach, followed by a cup of tea together.
Languages spoken are English and Portuguese.

The facilitators
Jane and Look Hulshoff Pol visited Plum Village for the first time in 1998 and have since participated and assisted in facilitating retreats and sanghas (mindfulness practice groups) in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh in Plum Village, France, The Netherlands, the U.S. and Germany. They are members of Tiep Hien (the Order of Interbeing), the core international lay community of this tradition, dedicated to living mindfully and peacefully and supporting others to do the same. In January 2010, Jane and Look were ordained as Dharma teachers by Thich Nhat Hanh.
